Percentage Calculator
Work out percentages, increases, and decreases.
Overview
Handles the common percentage questions in one place: a percentage of a number, what percentage one number is of another, and the percentage change between two numbers. Useful for quick math on discounts, tips, grades, and growth.
How it works
The calculator applies the basic percentage relationships. A percentage of a number is that percentage divided by 100, times the number. To find what percentage one number is of another, divide the first by the second and multiply by 100. Percentage change is the new value minus the old value, divided by the old value, times 100, where a positive result is an increase and a negative result is a decrease.
How to use it
- Pick the type of percentage question you want to answer.
- Enter the numbers it asks for.
- Read the result.
- Switch modes for a different kind of percentage calculation.
Examples
Percentage of a number
15 percent of 80 is 0.15 times 80, which is 12.
Percentage change
Going from 50 to 65 is a change of 15 over 50, or a 30 percent increase.
